The Truth about Index Fragmentation

What SQL Server doesn't reveal? Every DBA knows that index fragmentation is bad for performance and Indexes need to be rebuilt from time to time – that's basic maintenance knowledge. But how many of us know that index rebuild might cause degradation in performance? This incredible insight has revealed that rebuilding indexes is not enough for eliminating fragmentation. In this session we will deep dive into the core
structure of data files and understand the difference between physical and logical fragmentation. Additionally, we will reveal why SQL Server's fragmentation counter is misleading. A new methodology will be shown to truly eliminate fragmentation and eventually boost the whole system performance.
