Archiving Strategy explained

One of the first questions I usually ask while working on physical design is about estimated data growth and archiving strategy. This aspect is often overlooked and as a result data professionals burn countless
hours massaging fat and ugly databases. Archiving data is complex task affected by multiple business and technical decisions. Patterns and best practices can be not enough - generic solution offers temporary peace of mind and suboptimal performance, which is not sufficient in hyper-competitive, data-driven world. I'm going to show real world examples - from quick wins to black swans and perfect storms. What to expect:
  • Governance, Risk Management, Compliance
  • SQL Server 2005 to 2014
  • Internals
